Looking for Words

I need some new blogs, please.

If you work in the web industry, chances are your blog reading closely mirrors mine. To some degree, it should. When a new trend emerges or controversy brews, we’ll get trustworthy insight from various thought leaders as well as a helpful dose of sarcasm every once in awhile.

That said, I’m ready for some new voices. Derek Powazek, my favorite read over the past year, has stopped blogging, and the loss cuts deep. I need to fill the void.

What am I looking for? Writing about design, both web and otherwise. Writing about writing. Writing about film. Writing about business. Writing about life in general from a strong voice.

Here are the sites I’ve been reading over the past two years. This list will probably look very familiar to several of you, and probably belongs in a design textbook at this point:

  • cameronmoll.com
  • 37signals.com
  • airbagindustries.com
  • subtraction.com
  • daringfireball.com
  • kottke.com
  • jasonsantamaria.com
  • zeldman.com
  • coudal.com
  • shauninman.com
  • jeffcroft.com
  • dkeithrobinson.com
  • hicksdesign.co.uk
  • veerle.duoh.com
  • andyrutledge.com
  • designobserver.com
  • bearskinrug.co.uk
  • simplebits.com
  • webdevref.com
  • walkjogrun.net/blog
  • chicagobusiness.com

Who are you reading that I should add?

  • http://www.thehotiron.com/ Mike Maddaloni

On my blog, The Hot Iron – http://www.thehotiron.com/ – I list a few blogs that I read on a regular basis. There are many more, but there’s a few more to give you something to read.

Thanks, Mike! I only had a chance to glance at a few, but I’ll do a little more in-depth poking around. (And I’ll have to keep an eye on the hot iron as well.) Much appreciated!

Here you go, some of these are design, some of these are UX – but the 2 practices are (or should be) so completely tied together. Also some of these are “mags” – which helps take the pressure off just one blogger:

    http://www.markboulton.co.uk/journal/
The “Five Simple Steps” series are fantastic.

    http://toddwarfel.com/

    http://www.uxmag.com/

    http://www.thinkvitamin.com/
    (wish they published more often)

    http://www.garrettdimon.com/
Just switched blogging engines and redesigned. Good stuff.

I’ve got loads more…and I just started reading Mike’s blog after I saw his comment on your why move to Chicago post – its good stuff.

Thanks Jeff! I’ve been an infrequent visitors to UX mag and Vitamin, but I’ll grab the feed and start paying more attention. I’ll also read your site whenever it’s up and running…
