A Year in Cities

German directionsOh right, I have a blog.

Saw this list on Andrew Huff’s blog, and it reminded me of the U.S. map I taped to the wall of my dorm room junior year. I stuck a pin in every city I’d ever visited, then filled the holes with toothpaste before I went home for the summer (sorry, AU).

2007 in cities (multiple visits denoted with asterisks):

  • Muncie, IN*****
  • St. Louis, MO*****
  • Atlanta, GA
  • Boston, MA
  • Salem, MA (thanks Weeks!)
  • Cambridge, MA (ditto!)
  • Madison, WI
  • Lake Geneva, WI
  • Milwaukee, WI
  • Saugatuck, MI
  • Indianapolis, IN
  • Baumholder, Germany (thanks Nina!)
  • Ruschberg, Germany
  • Trier, Germany
  • Koln, Germany
  • Bonn, Germany
  • Daun, Germany
  • Idar-Oberstein, Germany

I had to take off my shoes and socks to count up the number of visits to both sides of the family, which shakes out to one a month. What good children we are.

I traveled nowhere to one city (thanks Jeff) in 2007 without mi esposa, but the favor was not returned. Work sent the lady of the house to:

  • Washington, DC
  • LA
  • NYC
  • Cleveland, OH
  • Atlantic Heights, NJ

Someday I WILL make it to Atlantic Heights. Until then, I can only dream.

  1. Now, what do you consider a city? Does it have to be labeled on a large wall map? And what do you consider a visit? Was it any location where you stayed the night? Had a meal?

Also, what kind of toothpaste did you use? I had a friend who tried to use gel - fyi, blue gel toothpaste doesn’t quite “blend” with white walls…

  2. We’re counting any place that we intentionally set out to visit. Doesn’t require an overnight stay, but usually involves a meal.

I find a paste with the whitening power of baking powder can fool even the best physical plant inspector.

  3. You forgot Baumholder (dinner and a visit to the grocery store - Mövenpick yogurt, remember?)

  4. Didn’t you make it to Hotlanta with us on a business trip at least once in ‘07? (sans-wifey?)

  5. And what about Salem and Cambridge? I have photographic evidence you were in Salem…

  6. Nina - I could never forget Movenpick!

Jeff - you are totally right. I thought Atlanta was’06, but Ken’s photos have it as February ‘07.

Weeks - you are also correct. Good work gumshoe.

    Drew…your blog is calling…

  8. Wow… A full month without a new posting… What the deuce?
